Data at Scale Improvement Projects update
1 December 2022
Applications from NHS organisations for funding to lead new Data at Scale Improvement Projects have now closed and those that have been submitted will now be independently assessed.
NHS organisations, academia and the healthcare industry can continue applying to lead non grant funded Improvement Projects into 2023.
In October the London Health Data Strategy (LHDS) programme announced that it will support up to ten new Improvement Projects in healthcare outcome improvement, planning, clinical research and product research and development.
The successful projects will use pan-London data to drive forward real improvements in health and care across the Capital.
Applications were invited from NHS organisations, academia and the healthcare industry with funding will be available for the NHS led projects.
A number of really strong applications for grant funded projects have been received from NHS organisations covering a range of clinical areas. These will now be considered by an Independent Information Access Group jointly chaired by a clinical lead and an Information Governance expert.
The Group will recommend successful projects based on a range of criteria including the project’s potential to rapidly demonstrate London wide health benefits, collaboration across organisations, how they will add value to existing initiatives and have patient and public engagement at the heart of their plans.
James Friend, Director of Digital Strategy NHS London Region, said:
“It is great that a number of compelling applications have been submitted from a range of NHS organisations wanting to use pan-London data to drive forward real improvements in health and care in the Capital. These will now be considered by an Independent Information Access Group.
“There is still plenty of time for NHS, academia and industry to apply for non-funded projects and we look forward to receiving more exciting and innovative proposals to use data at scale to improve the health of Londoners.”
The successful Improvement Projects will join our existing Pathfinder Projects in shaping the policies, infrastructure, governance, data strategies and public engagement of the LHDS programme as it develops a secure pan-London data platform to support improvements in health and care across the Capital.
This opportunity follows major public engagement events held with Londoners who were supportive of using joined up data to support individual care, proactive care, planning and research.
